HALMEDE and DORALEE head Newsboy’s Tuesday selections
HALMEDE (4.15, Nap) can strike for Sir Mark Prescott on her handicap debut over a much more suitable trip — and on turf — at Catterick. The three-year-old has run three times — all over around a mile and all on the all-weather — and not been placed.
Last time out, at Southwell in June, she was always no better than midfield and finished 13l behind Centigrade at 300-1 after being outpaced. But the daughter of Sea The Moon is bred to relish the extra half-mile of Tuesday’s RacingTV.com Handicap and should give a far better account of herself in the hands of Luke Morris. The filly should have most to fear from the John and Sean Quinn-trained Hansteen, who has not been out of the top two in his last three outings.
DORALEE (4.45, nb) has been running fairly consistently without winning but has a great chance of breaking that run in the final race at Catterick on Tuesday afternoon, the Racing Again 17th August Handicap over five furlongs. The David and Nicola Barron-trained mare went very close over the same trip last month at Ripon, making good headway under Rowan Scott — Jason Hart takes over in the saddle today — but just failing by a head to catch Zuffalo.
A similar display will make her hard to beat.
