Jonny Clayton captured the Swiss Darts Trophy with a commanding 8-4 victory over Luke Humphries in the final, earning his passage to the Grand Slam of Darts in November and claiming his first PDC ranking title of 2026.
The tournament unfolded at St Jakobshalle in Basel across October 9-11, serving as the penultimate European Tour event of the year. Clayton's path to the title saw him overcome Karel Sedlacek in the quarter-finals before dispatching Gian van Veen in the semi-finals, setting up the showdown with Humphries.
In a closely contested final, both players produced strong performances. According to BBC Sport, Clayton averaged 101.68 to Humphries' 101.75, yet the Welsh player proved decisive when it mattered most, winning four consecutive legs from 4-4. Clayton's checkout rate of 61.54% proved far superior to Humphries' 22.22%, ultimately determining the outcome.
The triumph marked a significant milestone for Clayton, as Live Darts reported the victory ended a 17-month drought in ranking silverware. Clayton took home the £35,000 top prize and finished the tournament with an impressive 102.69 average across all matches.
This represents Clayton's fourth European Tour crown overall. His previous ranking title came in May 2025, demonstrating his consistency at the highest level of the PDC circuit. The Swiss Darts Trophy success now guarantees his participation in the prestigious Grand Slam, one of darts' most coveted tournaments.
