FSG minority stake talks continue
Fenway Sports Group remain in talks with a consortium interested in buying a minority stake in Liverpool, the club's chief executive Billy Hogan has confirmed.
FSG released a statement last week saying that Amit Bhatia had expressed an interest in buying a stake in Liverpool. The British-Indian businessman was the director and co-owner at QPR for 18 seasons and has the backing of the the Mittal family, who are worth £26bn, according to Forbes.
Despite being the son-in-law of Lakshmi Mittal, who leads ArcelorMittal, the globe's biggest steel and mining firm, Bhatia has reportedly approached Jeff Bezos about joining his consortium. The Amazon founder, the fourth-richest man in the world with a net worth of over £190bn, is said to be considering the prospect.

Asked for an update on the situation, Hogan told Bloomberg:
“I can only refer back to the statement from FSG last week that we have been approached by a consortium that's led, managed and represented by Amit Bhatia for a strategic minority investment in the club. And I wouldn't say anything than that at this point.”
FSG bought Liverpool in 2010 when they were on the verge of administration for £300m and, according to the Financial Times, the potential deal being outlined by Bhatia would value the club at £4.5bn. They previously sold a single-figure stake to global sports investment firm Dynasty Equity in 2023 and are now weighing up another deal.
This deal is understood to only be at the preliminary stages, but is for a much more significant stake, potentially 30 per cent of the club.
Bezos has previously been credited with an interest in buying NFL franchises, with the Washington Commanders and Seattle Seahawks on his radar. Neither has materialised thus far and the Amazon billionaire's investment would be much smaller if he did become involved with Liverpool.
Liverpool in a period of flux
Liverpool have won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup since FSG's arrival 16 years ago, but are entering a period of flux. Andoni Iraola has arrived to replace Arne Slot following a disappointing 2025/26 season, while Michael Edwards left his role as FSG's chief executive of football earlier this month.
Edwards joined Liverpool in 2011 and was promoted to sporting director in 2016 before leaving in the summer of 2022. His departure is a significant blow to FSG and Liverpool while there has also been speculation over the future of Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes.
