Tottenham star Richarlison could be in for an awkward reunion with a couple of his teammates after wildly celebrating Argentina’s World Cup final heartbreak.
The South American nation were aiming to become back-to-back world champions as they took on Spain in New Jersey on Sunday. But Lionel Scaloni’s men were second best throughout the game, with Ferran Torres’ goal in extra time eventually securing the title for Spain.
Luis de la Fuente’s men of course celebrated their success on the pitch. But Brazil and Spurs striker Richarlison couldn’t resist getting involved from his living room after Torres' goal. His partner Amanda Araujo shared a video of the forward sliding across his lounge floor on his stomach, before he then jumped up and leapt into the air.
Of course, there is a bitter footballing rivalry between Brazil and Argentina so it’s no surprise to see Richarlison toast Spain’s success. But he might now be in for an awkward chat with a few teammates.
The striker plays alongside Argentina defender Cristian Romero in North London, while the pair have also been joined by Marcos Senesi, who signed on a free transfer from Premier League rivals Bournemouth.
Richarlison of course also has history with Spain midfielder Rodri, who was named player of the tournament. He previously hit out at the decision to hand the Manchester City man the Ballon d’Or in 2024 instead of Brazil teammate Vinicius Jr.
“All of us who live football eagerly await the individual awards each season. Today, all Brazilians who love football woke up expecting to see another player from our country win an award for the best in the world after so long.
“Unfortunately, for reasons that no one can understand, the award did not come. And don’t get me wrong, Rodri is a great player who deserves to be among the best.
“But Vini not winning the Ballon d’Or was embarrassing, and the only one who lost today was football. I remember Vini saying that his dream was to see the whole of Brazil cheering for him. And that day was today!
“You are a giant and the best in the world, kid! And no trophy will change that. Keep going and never shut up! We’re together.”
Richarlison scored 12 goals in 43 appearances for Spurs last season but the 54-time capped Brazilian international was not named in his nation’s squad for the World Cup by Carlo Ancelotti.
The Selecao only managed to reach the last 16, having been beaten by an Erling Haaland inspired Norway.
