Newcastle plan for Bruno Guimaraes return
Newcastle are planning to welcome Bruno Guimaraes to their pre-season camp on Sunday - where he will hold talks with new boss Matthias Jaissle regarding his future.
The Brazilian has been given an extended summer break given his involvement at the World Cup , but throughout that time he's been linked with a St James' Park exit as Arsenal circle for the midfielder , who has expressed a desire to leave.
Newcastle have already seen Anthony Gordon leave for Barcelona and Sandro Tonali then followed him out of the club, joining Tottenham in a £100million deal. Losing Guimaraes would perhaps be the biggest blow given he is their captain and talisman.
But the Chronicle reports that the Brazilian will not be with his team-mates as they jet off to La Manga on Friday for their pre-season camp. Newcastle sources claim that Guimaraes has been handed his own travel plans and his delay in returning is thought to be part of his post-World Cup fitness programme.
Jaissle arrival and Wilson's role
Newcastle sporting director Ross Wilson will travel to La Manga with the team ahead of Jaissle's expected arrival this weekend after Eddie Howe chose to step away, albeit his exit has yet to be formalised.
The ex-Red Bull Salzburg boss will have to prove to his star midfielder that he can create a winning outfit given their season and notable exits.
In Howe's final interview he gave no promises that Guimaraes would remain in Newcastle given the club have been willing to sanction high profile exits for large fees.
“We’ve spoken numerous times. Assurances? I don’t think you can push too hard for those. I’ve said many times we want players who are committed, and Bruno has always been committed. "His training performances and his game performances have been outstanding, every time he’s worn the shirt, he’s played with the fans by his side. I’d love to see that continue.”
