World Cup star Orlando Gill was the subject of an enquiry from Manchester United, according to the player's representative, Mario Jara.
The goalkeeper impressed for Paraguay as the South American nation faced the likes of France and upset Germany during the tournament. Gill is set to leave San Lorenzo this summer following his exploits, and United were among the candidates linked with his signature.
Now, Jara has confirmed that the Red Devils reached out, though they no longer appear to be in the running. Senne Lammens established himself as United's first-choice keeper last season, and Michael Carrick has added Karl Darlow to his options from Leeds United.
The former Newcastle shotstopper's arrival means it's unlikely another goalkeeper will arrive this summer. Nevertheless, Jara has confirmed he has held discussions with clubs in both England and Germany.
The agent has indicated that the Gill is set to move imminently. He told DSports Radio:
We are in talks with English clubs as well as clubs in Germany. There were enquiries with Manchester United.
We only received two concrete offers. We are currently in the negotiation phase.
The sale is close, the time is right. We have to handle it very carefully because there are many things involved. It's ideal for him to take a step up in quality. He's prepared and capable of playing in any league, without a doubt.
We're trying to finalise it as quickly as possible for everyone's benefit. It would be very important for San Lorenzo; hopefully, it will come to fruition.

United are more likely to see goalkeepers leave the club. Andre Onana has already departed on loan to Trabzonspor, while Altay Bayindir and Radek Vitek could both find new sides.
Vitek has featured in each of the Red Devils' friendlies so far, against Wrexham and Rosenborg, with Lammens only arriving back to Carrington on Thursday. Former Bristol City loanee is determined to find first-team action.
