Championship side Wolves cancelled their training session on Monday after striker Tolu Arokodare refused to leave the pitch. Extra security was also deployed the following day to ensure that the 25-year-old didn't return to the club's training ground.
The extraordinary development comes just weeks into Cesar Peixoto's reign as manager. The Portuguese was brought in to replace Rob Edwards, who was sacked after Wolves were relegated from the Premier League by finishing rock bottom of the table.
Arokodare, who scored just six goals in 38 games, was part of the squad responsible for Wolves' dismal season and had been linked with a move away. And his future at Molineux has been plunged into further uncertainty following Monday's debacle.
The Wolves Poddy report that training was cancelled because of Arokodare's refusal to leave the pitch when asked not to train with the rest of the squad. On Tuesday, Wolves increased security at Compton Park in order to stop the ex-Genk star from entering.
Arokodare won't be involved when Wolves face non-league outfit Maidenhead United in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday night. Clubs from Serie A including Genoa and Fiorentina are interested in signing Arokodare, with the latter having seen a bid rejected earlier this month.
The decision to block Arokodare from training is viewed as a show of power by Peixoto, who's tasked with bringing Wolves back to the Premier League - and he made it clear in his first interview exactly what type of manager he'll be.
"Firstly, I'm a very demanding coach," the former Gil Vicente boss said.
"But, I believe in giving others maximum freedom and maximum responsibility. I want us to work as a team and as a unit and build a good environment. This is important to me, but I know very well what I want from the team. I want my team to be organised with and without the ball. Will Wolves come straight back up? "Secondly, I want a team with intensity and to be aggressive and win duels.
"The third one is I want to show the quality of the players. To play an offensive game and to try and press high. To try and be the main character of the games. I want to win games, but I want to win while playing good football. With passion and energy.
"[The supporters can expect] a team with ambition. A strong character and identity and a strong idea of the game. A team that never gives up to win three points and to try and make the fans proud."
Wolves have made three new signings alongside making defender Ladislav Krejci's loan move permanent for a total fee of £26million. Right-back Kieran Trippier and striker Raul Jimenez arrived on free transfers under Edwards before the club paid a reported £7.7m for left winger Rafiki Said.
