Sparan Nua and Sunly clash in Prix Vermeille
The Qatar Prix Vermeille brings together Sparan Nua and Sunly in a highly competitive Group 1 contest. Sparan Nua appeared to relish the step up to a mile and a half when running in the Yorkshire Oaks, finishing with a strong late run but unable to displace the King George winner Kalpana.
Sunly returned to action this year with considerable expectations, winning a Group 3 at Saint-Cloud before running Aventure very close in the Group 2 Prix Corrida. That form has gained significant credibility given that Aventure has since won the Group 1 Prix Jean et Louis Romanet. Sunly's effort behind Calandagan in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud last time out caught the eye of observers, and with Colin Keane booked to ride, she could prove difficult to beat.
Survie recently captured the Grade 1 Christophe Clement Turf Stakes at Saratoga and arrives at ParisLongchamp with Ryan Moore in the saddle. Supporting card features emerging talent and Irish Derby winner
The opening race of the day, the Qatar Prix la Rochette at 12:58, features what many regard as Europe's leading two-year-old of 2026 in Avec Toi. Trainer Christopher Head has labelled the daughter of No Nay Never a
machinefollowing her stunning recent success, and she faces four rivals including the unbeaten contenders Vignelli and Imperial Strike.
Head could potentially saddle winners of the first two Group contests on the card, as he also trains Data for the Qatar Prix d'Aumale at 1:33pm.
