The meeting at Bath is branded as the Bath Country Race Day, What A Way To Make Weekend, and runs from 14:00 through to 17:35 on 2 September 2026. According to Bath Racecourse, the card features eight flat races staged on good ground with good to firm patches in places, with rail movements applied at several distances. The opening race at 14:00 is the EBF Restricted Maiden Stakes, which carries a winner's purse of £4,320 and features just six declared runners according to Racing Post.
Etienne aims to break maiden duck at Bath
The headline attraction of the opening race is Etienne, a Richard Spencer-trained prospect making his return following a promising run in the Weatherbys Super Sprint. The colt was narrowly denied on his debut, going down by just a short head, before stepping up in class to contest the Super Sprint where he finished fourth.
That performance suggested genuine potential. Etienne shaped as the best horse in the race that day, conceding first run to his rivals before running on strongly to record the highest finishing speed among the front four finishers. The form has since been franked by the winner, Angel's Lane, who has bolted up to claim victory in a good edition of the St Hugh's Stakes.
Spencer's runner carries Group One and Group Two entries for the autumn, signalling the yard's confidence in his ability at the highest level. The slight step up in trip from his previous outing should bring out the best in him, and he appears extremely tough to beat on paper.
Tree Wizard and Anna Belardo represent the main threats, each holding one piece of form that could see them run creditably. However, both would need to bounce back to their best form to pose a serious challenge to Etienne's winning prospects.
Quebella headlines competitive fillies' handicap
The 5.02 race at Bath is a British EBF Fillies' Handicap that shapes as a wide-open contest. Quebella headlines the field after stringing together two consecutive third-placed finishes since joining Owen Burrows' yard.
The filly was very well backed at her most recent outing at Chester, but a wide draw and a drop in trip both worked against her that day. A return to a furlong and a half longer should suit her running style, and she looks set to go well.
Pierian won impressively by nine lengths at Yarmouth in May but has since disappointed. The fact that connections stepped her up into listed company before running her in a handicap at Glorious Goodwood suggests she is held in higher regard than her recent form indicates. She can prove competitive if she progresses from her earlier season efforts.
The in-form duo of Mythical Bird and Aravalli both scored at their most recent starts. Aravalli has been particularly impressive, winning four of her last five races, and both runners should go well in what promises to be a competitive fillies' handicap.
Yordan bids for back-to-back wins at Newcastle
At Newcastle, where Racing Post lists the surface as Tapeta standard, the feature race is the EBF Novice Stakes at 2.45. Yordan headlines the contest as he bids to follow up a facile success.
The three-year-old was purchased for 160,000gns as a yearling in October 2024 but had to wait until July 2026 to make his belated debut. Since then, he has made a promising start to his racing career, finishing a close second on debut before winning by nearly three lengths when dropped to six furlongs at Southwell last month.
Harry Vigors has been booked to ride, which offsets the winning penalty Yordan carries. With a clear class edge on paper, the colt could take all the beating as he attempts to make it two wins from three starts.
Ennoble was previously trained by Joseph O'Brien and holds solid two-year-old form, but Antony Brittain would need to revitalise the horse as it appears he may not have trained on from his juvenile campaign. Brash has maintained a consistent level of form throughout his career and can again run creditably, but he is much more exposed and would need to make a miraculous improvement to threaten Yordan's winning chances.

The 4.30 at Bath features Blue Hero, a course specialist seeking his 12th course victory, taking on in-form rival Buckland Belle. At Newcastle, Let's Go Hugo bids for a hat-trick in the 4.45.
