Newsboy’s horseracing tips for Wednesday’s four meetings, including Pontefract Nap
BETWEENTHESTICKS (4.15, Nap) can continue his good record at Pontefract by landing the FBS Chartered Accountant Chaplins Club Handicap for the second year running. The Ruth Carr trained six-year-old is in decent form, finishing second and third — both to Hover On The Wind — in his last two runs over course and distance.
The latter race saw the gelding make good headway under regular rider James Sullivan to go second a furlong out only to fade late on to finish one and a half lengths behind the winner. The son of Captain Gerrard will enjoy the slightly faster ground on Wednesday afternoon and, having been dropped 1lb from his last run, is now back to his last winning mark.
Earlier on the card, GARDEN OASIS (3.45, nb) is another who could win the same race two years in a row. The 11-year-old, trained by course specialist Tim Easterby, could be running into form just at the right time to take the RIU Hotels and Resorts Ladies Day Veterans’ Handicap over a mile.
He was beaten only by a head at Ripon by Farasi Lane last time and a repeat of that display should see him go close here in the hands of regular rider David Allan. The gelded son of Excelebration stays this trip well and is 8lb lower than when he won this last year.
