HAVANA JAG is fancied to enjoy a red-letter day with a first career win in the Sky Sports Racing Virgin 512 Handicap (7.59) at Great Yarmouth on Thursday evening. The daughter of Havana Grey failed to find the target in nine attempts for Dylan Cunha, moving to John Gallagher after a close fourth at Newcastle in March.
On the back of a 102-day lay-off, my selection marked her stable debut with by occupying the same finishing position behind course specialist Silky Robin at Brighton on June 22. Havana Jag then went off at 28-1 for an eight runner apprentice handicap over five furlongs at Newbury three weeks ago and posted a personal best with a one-and-a-quarter-length second to Truly Glamorous.
There is more to come in Gallagher’s care and Havana Jag, whom Kaiya Fraser rides for the first time, drops from a 0-70 handicap to 0-60 level. From an unchanged British Horseracing Authority mark of 59, she gets the vote to go one better.
Yarmouth stages a seven-race card on Thursday when Newsboy’s nap, Havana Jag, is fancied to win the 7.59.
Sandown
At Sandown, NEPTUNE LEGEND is the one to beat in the opening Tony Linnett Memorial Handicap (1.55). The Tony Carroll-saddled son of Invincible Spirit made it three wins from his last four outings when beating Sisters In The Sky at Bath at the beginning of the month and a 6lb higher mark shouldn’t prevent another bold show.
