Los Angeles Rams left tackle Alaric Jackson will serve a one-game suspension for striking Buffalo Bills linebacker Bradley Chubb following Monday Night Football, after the league reduced his original two-game penalty on appeal.
The incident occurred after the Bills' 37-34 overtime victory at SoFi Stadium. Jackson was exchanging jerseys with another Bills player when Chubb approached him. After the two exchanged words and Chubb walked away, Jackson followed and confronted him before throwing a punch that knocked Chubb's hat off his head.
The NFL characterised Jackson's action as
an act of unsportsmanlike conductin its official statement.
Hearing officer Derrick Brooks, jointly appointed by the NFL and NFLPA, reduced Jackson's suspension after hearing his appeal, though the league did not publicly explain the reasoning behind the reduction.
Jackson, 28, will miss the Rams' Week Six matchup against Arizona. This marks his second NFL suspension; he previously served a two-game suspension in 2024 under the league's personal-conduct policy.
Rams head coach Sean McVay addressed the incident in a measured tone, saying
Have to make better decisions than that. I spoke with him. We'll keep that in-house... I want to understand the totality of the situation. I'm not condoning by any means, but I want to gather all the information.
David Quessenberry will take over as the Rams' starting left tackle during Jackson's absence. The 36-year-old veteran has been limited in recent seasons, playing just 128 offensive snaps over the previous two seasons and has not started an NFL game since 2023.
What happens next
Jackson is eligible to return for the Rams' Week 7 game against the Las Vegas Raiders on October 25.
49ers' Greenlaw also suspended
San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw has been handed a one-game suspension for headbutting Seattle Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones IV following a late hit on the Seattle sideline. Greenlaw will sit out the 49ers' Monday night contest against Washington.
