Luke Graham marked his first goal for Stoke with a decisive header as the visitors secured a 1-0 victory at Pride Park, intensifying the pressure on a Derby side struggling near the foot of the table.

According to Sky Sports, the Scotland defender rose to meet Ethan Galbraith's free-kick in the 49th minute, directing his header past Josh Vickers despite the goalkeeper getting a hand to the ball—it deflected in off the left post to settle a scrappy encounter.

Derby, hampered by the absence of several key players, fought hard throughout and came agonisingly close to salvaging a point. David Ozoh's low drive in the 89th minute forced a brilliant save from goalkeeper Viktor Johansson, who plunged to his right to deny the equaliser.

The result leaves Derby in the bottom three still chasing their first home win of an increasingly difficult season. Before the match, Derby had 6 points from 10 games and sat 23rd; Stoke had 16 points from 10 games and sat ninth. The defeat comes just two days after Derby lost 4-1 away to QPR on 15 October, compounding their troubles at the Midlands club.

Stoke began the afternoon brightly on a sunny but chilly day at Pride Park. Lamine Cisse broke forward and pulled the ball to Jack McGlynn, but his low shot lacked sufficient power to trouble Vickers in the Derby goal.

Carlton Morris appeared to be tripped by Bosun Lawal in a challenge that drew Derby protests, but referee Oliver Langford waved away the appeals and allowed play to continue.

The contest deteriorated into a scrappy affair as the first half wore on, though Derby managed to create a late opportunity when a corner reached Sammie Szmodics, only for a defender to block his goalbound effort.

Stoke had squandered their early promise through careless possession, prompting manager Mark Robins to demand a response after the interval. His side delivered immediately, taking the lead through Graham's header just four minutes into the second half.

Derby rallied and Ozoh got the better of Lawal, but hesitated before shooting and saw his effort blocked. The hosts grew into the game and in the 63rd minute, Rhian Brewster shot narrowly wide from the edge of the area, finally putting Stoke under sustained pressure.

The visitors nearly extended their advantage on the counter-attack in the 84th minute when Ben Johnson slid a pass across to Justin Devenny, but the forward could not generate enough power on his shot to trouble Vickers.

Derby's best chance came in the closing stages when Ozoh's low drive seemed destined for the net, only for Johansson to produce a crucial intervention and preserve Stoke's narrow advantage.
