Swansea City 4-0 Blackburn Rovers: Swans back to winning ways in thumping victory

Swansea City delivered a commanding response to their heavy defeat the previous weekend by dismantling Blackburn Rovers 4-0 at home. The emphatic victory showcased the attacking prowess that has made the Welsh club one of the Championship's standout sides this season.

According to Sky Sports, the hosts established complete control early, with three goals already secured by the interval through Stephen Eustaquio, Joseph Opoku and Filip Lissah. Scotland international Ross Stewart then added a fourth on the hour mark to seal a dominant display and open his Swansea account.

Blackburn arrived in South Wales on the back of an impressive run that had yielded four wins from their previous six matches, including a 2-0 home victory over Wrexham the week before. However, Tony Mowbray's side proved entirely unable to cope with the intensity and quality of Vitor Matos' attacking football, particularly during a devastating first-half performance.

The Swans had been seeking redemption following their 5-0 humbling at QPR seven days earlier, and they wasted no time in making their intentions clear. As early as the fourth minute, Melker Widell sent in a low cross from the right flank, though Blackburn managed to clear the danger.

The breakthrough arrived moments later when Opoku led a charge down the right wing. His cross found its way to the six-yard box, where Eustaquio was waiting unmarked at the far post to convert with ease.

Frustration began mounting in the Rovers ranks as Swansea continued to dominate possession and territory. Eom Ji-sung fired a free-kick from just outside the box that sailed inches wide, while Moussa Baradjil picked up a yellow card for a lunging challenge on Widell as the visitors' discipline started to slip.

Blackburn's attacking threat remained minimal throughout the opening period. Their only shot on target in the first half came in the 26th minute when captain Todd Cantwell beat the offside trap but blazed his effort high over the crossbar.

The second goal arrived in the 32nd minute when Opoku latched onto a through ball from Stephen Welsh in the centre circle. Blackburn defender Tom Atcheson failed to control the pass, and as it deflected off his shin, Opoku struck a composed finish past goalkeeper Balazs Toth.

Five minutes later, the rout was effectively complete. Maintaining their relentless intensity and rhythm, Swansea extended their lead to 3-0 when Lissah collected a long pass, controlled it inside the penalty area and fired past Toth. The home side's passing at times proved irresistible, leaving Blackburn's defence in disarray.

Stewart nearly made it four before half-time when he raced onto a cross along the six-yard line, but he just failed to make contact with the ball as it flashed across the goal.

Mowbray attempted to inject fresh energy into his side at the start of the second half, introducing Augustus Kargbo and Hayden Carter. Blackburn did enjoy greater possession and territory after the interval, and Toth was forced to make saves to deny both Eustaquio and Widell in quick succession.

The visitors managed to win a free-kick and a corner as they sought to restore some pride, but Swansea goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux was never seriously tested by their efforts.

The fourth goal duly arrived in the 59th minute when Stewart raced onto a flick from Eom and unleashed a powerful left-footed strike into the roof of the net, marking a successful debut goal for the Scotland international at his new club.

Fitness boost for Swansea

The victory came with the added boost of Josh Key returning to fitness after almost seven weeks sidelined with a hamstring injury, providing Matos with additional attacking options as the season progresses.

What comes next

Swansea will travel to Portsmouth for their next fixture on 3 November 2026, with the match scheduled to kick off at 19:45, according to ESPN.
