Bournemouth's resolve to keep hold of Alex Scott is wavering, with the 23-year-old England midfielder continuing to reject fresh contract proposals at the south coast club, according to Sky Sports News sources.
The club would seriously entertain a substantial bid if one arrived during the January transfer window. Although Scott is not pushing for an exit, his ambitions lie with a move to a larger club, and he is keen to explore those possibilities.
Both Chelsea and Liverpool maintain genuine interest in the midfielder. Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham all pursued him before the summer window closed, but were rebuffed by Bournemouth, who insisted he was unavailable. According to BBC Sport, Chelsea's reported bid of around £60m, potentially rising to £64m, was turned down.
Scott's contract situation adds urgency to Bournemouth's thinking. His deal expires in just over 18 months, meaning his market value will diminish as time progresses. The club recognises this reality and may be willing to negotiate if the right offer materialises.
Sources have indicated to Sky Sports News that an offer exceeding £80m with add-ons would command serious consideration from Bournemouth in January, provided the club has secured its Premier League status by then. The Cherries have yet to register a league victory this season and suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat at Chelsea last weekend.
According to the BBC, Bournemouth would consider a January sale if an offer of approximately £100m arrives, subject to the club's league position. Scott joined Bournemouth from Bristol City in 2023 for £25m, and his current contract runs until 2028. He had rejected two contract offers at the end of last season.
Scott's immediate future remains uncertain due to injury. He exacerbated a thigh tendon problem whilst on England duty, when he earned his full senior debut. The midfielder now faces an extended spell sidelined, delaying his return to action for several weeks.
Rose insists Scott remains committed
Bournemouth head coach Marco Rose has dismissed speculation about Scott's future, emphasising the midfielder's dedication to the club despite mounting transfer talk.
Speaking ahead of Bournemouth's Europa League fixture against Sturm Graz on Wednesday, Rose addressed the January exit rumours directly.
We just closed the other transfer window and we're now talking about the next one. We are just focused on the game against Sturm Graz and the upcoming game in the Premier League - and not commentating on rumours that show up right after the last transfer window closes.
The German manager reflected on the constant questioning he faced during the summer window regarding Scott's availability.
It's not frustrating anyway for us. I told you that Alex Scott was going to stay in the summer. We got questions after questions in press conferences for I don't know how many weeks.
Rose reaffirmed his confidence in Scott's future at the club, pointing to the midfielder's performances earlier in the season as evidence of his commitment.
He's a player of our club and now he's injured, we are looking forward to having him back in a couple of days and weeks and we'll continue with Alex Scott. And he's quite committed, everyone can see it from the first games of the season.
Scott sustained the thigh injury during England's 7-0 Nations League victory over Croatia. England manager Thomas Tuchel indicated there had been no apparent injury risk when Scott featured in the match.
What happens next
Bournemouth are scheduled to host Sunderland on October 18, 2026, giving Rose time to assess his squad's form and Scott's recovery progress before the January window opens.
