Harry Kane has reached an agreement in principle on a contract extension with Bayern Munich that will keep him at the Bundesliga club until the summer of 2029.

The England captain and his family have settled well in Munich and are enjoying their time in the Bavarian capital. Bayern Munich are now in the process of completing the contractual formalities to finalise the deal.

According to Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund, negotiations have progressed positively and the club remains

very positive
about the outcome, though he emphasised that nothing becomes official until the paperwork is signed.

Kane's current contract with Bayern runs until June 2027, and the new deal represents a significant commitment from both parties. Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen backed the extension in July 2026, with both the club and player keen to continue their partnership.

A remarkable scoring record

Since his move from Tottenham to Bayern in 2023, Kane has delivered an extraordinary return of 154 goals across 156 matches. His output last season was particularly stunning, with 73 goals for club and country combined, positioning him as a leading contender for the men's Ballon d'Or award.

Kane has already claimed two Bundesliga titles during his time in Germany, with his first major trophy arriving in 2025. He has also secured last season's German Cup and the German Super Cup over the past two years, establishing himself as a cornerstone of Bayern's success.

Over the past three seasons, Kane has won the European Golden Shoe on two occasions, awarded to the continent's leading goalscorer, and has claimed the Bundesliga Golden Boot in each of his three campaigns at the club.

Internationally, Kane guided England to the Euro 2024 final and led the Three Lions to their strongest World Cup performance since 1966 earlier this summer. Earlier this month, he equalled Peter Shilton's England appearance record by earning his 125th cap, a milestone he will have the opportunity to surpass during next month's Nations League fixtures.

Record-breaking form in 2025-26

Kane has established himself as the fastest player ever to reach 100 Bundesliga goals, achieving the milestone in just 98 matches. This shattered the previous record held by Dieter Müller, whose mark had stood for nearly fifty years.

The 2025-26 season represented the most prolific campaign of Kane's career. He netted 36 goals in 31 Bundesliga appearances, added 14 in 13 Champions League matches, and contributed 12 strikes for England, including six at the World Cup. Most recently, Kane scored twice in Bayern's 3-3 Champions League draw with Viking on 13 October 2026.

Scoring 73 goals across 65 games represents an extraordinary level of consistency and efficiency. Kane has maintained his fitness at a level superior to any point in his career, arriving at previous international tournaments visibly fatigued but now operating at peak physical condition.

The Ballon d'Or case

While other players may have accumulated greater team honours, Kane's individual form this calendar year has been unmatched across world football. At 31 years old, he has somehow elevated his game to new heights, establishing himself as the world's premier number nine.

The timing of his potential Ballon d'Or recognition could prove particularly poignant, with the award ceremony scheduled to take place at the London Palladium later this month, allowing Kane to receive the honour in his home town.

What comes next

Bayern are scheduled to face RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga on 17 October 2026, before a significant Champions League encounter against Arsenal on 21 October 2026. Kane will be central to Bayern's ambitions in both competitions as the season progresses.
