Michael Brennan secured his second victory of the season and third PGA Tour title at the Baycurrent Classic, holding his nerve down the stretch with a composed three-under 68 to finish at 16-under 268 and claim a one-stroke victory over Jacob Bridgeman and Keith Mitchell.
Brennan entered the final round tied for the lead alongside Bridgeman and Zach Bauchou in the FedEx Cup Fall event at hilly Yokohama Country Club. After dropping a shot at the 10th hole, he quickly recovered with back-to-back birdies on the 11th and 12th to seize control of the tournament. From that point forward, he played the closing six holes in level par to secure the trophy.
The most impressive moment of his winning stretch came on the par-3 16th, where Brennan faced a delicate recovery from a greenside bunker. He struck a lengthy approach shot that finished just a foot from the pin, securing a crucial par that proved vital in his one-shot triumph.
Bridgeman's challenge fell just short down the stretch. On the par-4 17th, his five-foot birdie attempt drifted right of the cup, denying him a chance to draw level. His final opportunity came on the 18th, where he had a 55-foot birdie putt that needed to navigate a large ridge on the green. The putt finished four feet wide, leaving him with a 69 and a share of second place at 15-under.
Mitchell's final round told a tale of two halves. Playing the middle section of his round, he strung together an impressive five-hole stretch in five-under par, which included three birdies and an eagle to move into contention. However, his momentum stalled over the final 10 holes, where he managed only two-under to card a 68 and tie for second at 15-under.
Defending champion Xander Schauffele entered the final hole just one stroke behind Brennan but his challenge unravelled on the 18th. A wayward drive into the trees left him with no option but to take a double bogey, which he could not recover from. He finished with a 67 to tie for fourth at 13-under alongside Brian Harman, who shot 67.
Stephan Jaeger (70), Ryan Gerard (68) and England's Jordan Smith (70) also finished at 13-under to round out the top finishers near the lead.
Jordan Spieth made his first appearance in the FedEx Cup Fall series and showed promise with a 67 to tie for 13th at 11-under. Japanese star Hideki Matsuyama, who won the Baycurrent Classic in 2021, carded a 67 to finish tied for 21st at nine-under.
Brennan's victory at Yokohama adds to an impressive autumn campaign. The 24-year-old former Wake Forest player claimed the Wyndham Championship in August and has now accumulated three titles across 33 starts on the PGA Tour. According to the PGA Tour's official leaderboard, Brennan finished at 16-under 268, one clear of his nearest challengers. His victory came shortly after he tied for 13th at the Bank of Utah Championship on October 4, immediately before travelling to Japan.
The Baycurrent Classic featured an $8 million purse, with Brennan's winner's share totalling $1.44 million. He concluded the season 46th in the FedExCup standings and won the Bank of Utah Championship last year, demonstrating his consistency across multiple tournaments.
