Daryz will attempt to etch his name into racing folklore by claiming a second consecutive Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, seeking to become the first colt since Alleged in 1978 to achieve this remarkable feat. The Francis-Henri Graffard-trained champion will face a formidable field in Europe's richest race at ParisLongchamp this afternoon, with the contest broadcast live on Sky Sports Racing at 3.05pm.
The four-year-old's credentials for another triumph appear compelling. After his triumphant return in the Prix Ganay, he followed that with an equally impressive victory in the Prix Aga Khan IV. A summer excursion to Royal Ascot for the Prince Of Wales' Stakes proved less successful, with the colt finishing third, though subsequent examination revealed blood issues had affected his performance that day.
Following a period of recuperation, Graffard's star demonstrated his enduring class in the Prix Foy, where he defeated Bay City Roller by 1¾ lengths in a time of 2:30.89. The trainer revealed at that stage the colt was operating at only 75 per cent fitness, suggesting further improvement remains possible. Drawn in stall five, Daryz carries the weight of favourite's expectations, though his connections express considerable confidence in his prospects.
Notably, Daryz's owners and breeders chose to keep him in training after his 2025 Arc victory rather than retire him to stud, a decision that now appears vindicated. According to France Galop's 2026 media guide, only eight horses have won the Arc in consecutive years in the race's more than 100-year history, underlining the magnitude of what Daryz seeks to accomplish.

Kalpana represents a serious challenger to Daryz's ambitions. The filly finished seventh in last year's Arc and returns to ParisLongchamp seeking redemption. Her connections harbour genuine hopes of emulating Bluestocking, the Juddmonte filly who claimed this famous prize two years ago. The King George winner has accumulated two Group 1 victories this season and appears in peak condition. Drawn in stall six, the ground conditions appear favourable for her running style, and with jockey Colin Keane having spent another year developing their partnership, she possesses genuine winning claims.
William Haggas seeks his first Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe victory through Maltese Cross, a progressive three-year-old bidding for a second Group 1 success. The son of Sea The Stars finished second in the Derby before winning the Grand Prix de Paris and subsequently the Great Voltigeur Stakes. However, his prospects have been complicated by an unfavourable draw in stall 11.
Aidan O'Brien fields three Classic winners in pursuit of Arc glory. Ryan Moore has opted to ride Irish Derby winner Benvenuto Cellini rather than Diamond Necklace, who has drawn the notoriously difficult stall 16. Last year's runner-up Minnie Hauk completes O'Brien's trio, partnered by William Buick as she bids to go one better than her previous effort.
Bay City Roller, who finished second to Daryz in the Prix Foy, returns to face the champion once more. The Coronation Cup winner will be seeking to reverse that result and claim the Arc for himself.
Aventure seeks Opera glory against her own sex
Aventure headlines a field of nine runners in the Group 1 Prix de l'Opera Longines at 3.50pm, returning to contest against fillies and mares after two Arc campaigns. Trained by Christophe Ferland, the mare finished second and eleventh respectively in the last two runnings of the Arc.
Against her own sex, Aventure boasts an exceptional record of eight victories from 12 starts, including two Group 1 triumphs. She bounced back from defeat at the hands of Daryz in the Prix Ganay when she defeated Sunly in the Prix Corrida. Calandagan proved too strong for her in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, but Aventure secured a significant victory when she claimed the Prix Jean et Louis Romanet at Deauville in the summer, defeating the previously unbeaten Diamond Necklace.
Three-year-old Pink Panthera emerges as the strongest challenger. She has struck the crossbar twice at Group 1 level this season, finishing second in both the Prix de Diane and most recently the Prix Vermeille. Three-year-olds have demonstrated a fabulous record in this contest, having won eight of the last 10 renewals.
Irish 1000 Guineas and Coronation Stakes winner Precise steps up in trip for the first time, with jockey Ryan Moore taking the ride. The filly has been extensively campaigned this season and represents another credible contender in what shapes as a competitive renewal.
Samangan and Thesecretadversary renew rivalry in the Foret
Samangan and Thesecretadversary meet for a second time in the Group 1 Qatar Prix de la Foret over seven furlongs at 4.25pm. Thesecretadversary gained the upper hand when they previously clashed in the Prix Jean Prat, a victory that followed the son of St Mark's Basilica's success in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Thesecretadversary subsequently stepped up in trip for the Prix Jacques le Marois, where he finished second, beaten three lengths by Rayif, another Aga Khan colt trained by Francis-Henri Graffard. Samangan finished fourth that day, with True Love in second place.
Samangan then dropped back in trip for the Prix Maurice de Gheest, where he secured his first Group 1 victory, seeing off the fast-finishing Divison. True Love, who became a Classic winner in Newmarket's 1000 Guineas in May, has not tasted victory since that triumph. She has nevertheless run creditably in defeat, placing three times in Group 1 company.
Nighttime seeks to bounce back to form for trainer Christopher Head, whilst Marvelman carries the colours of Andrew Balding in what promises to be a keenly contested sprint championship.
Supporting card at ParisLongchamp
The supporting programme features four additional Group 1 contests. At 12.31pm, Green Express heads an open-looking field in the Prix Marcel Boussac. The Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at 1.09pm sees National Stakes hero Folsom Blues return to action. Naana's Shadow takes on 14 rivals in the wide-open Prix de l'Abbaye at 1.47pm, whilst the Arabian World Cup at 2.25pm features Rb Kingmaker and HM Alchahine among the entries.
Stateside action
Racing continues across the Atlantic, with Keeneland hosting two significant contests. At 10.10am, Rebecca Menzies sends Adonius to face Queen Mary third Ruiva in the Group 3 Summer Stakes. The Group 1 Spinster Stakes at 10.45am sees Fully Subscribed line up, with the filly using the race as a preparation for the Breeders' Cup Distaff.
What happens next
The Arc is scheduled for Sunday, 4 October 2026, at ParisLongchamp, with the championship race representing the culmination of the European flat racing season. Daryz and his rivals will have one final opportunity to prove their credentials before the sport's most prestigious prize is decided.
