King George weekend gets underway at Ascot today

Sky Sports Racing delivered a packed Friday card across four racecourses, with Ascot, Hexham, Newcastle and Wolverhampton all providing live action throughout the afternoon.

3.35 Ascot - Infraad claims Listed honours

William Haggas' three-year-old Infraad secured a third consecutive victory by winning the Noel Murless Stakes at Ascot. The colt had built an impressive record through the season, capturing a useful handicap at Goodwood before taking the Melrose at York with authority. That York success provided the springboard for his step up into Listed company, and he delivered under Tom Marquand to justify the confidence placed in him.

According to Racing TV, the race was contested over 1m 6f 34y with six runners competing for a winner's prize of £56,710. Infraad's victory came ahead of Galiyan, who brought solid credentials to the contest with an official rating matching the winner at 106. Galiyan had been highly tried since winning a Chester maiden and was not disgraced when finishing fifth in the St Leger last month.

Galilean Quality, who had finished second in both the Melrose and at Haydock, completed the frame in third place. The quality of the field underlined the strength of Infraad's achievement in stepping up to Listed grade and delivering under pressure.

5.25 Wolverhampton - Enchanted Queen makes winning handicap debut

George Boughey and Billy Loughnane's Enchanted Queen made a successful transition to handicap racing at Wolverhampton. The filly had impressed on her first start for the yard with an easy victory in a Kempton novice, and she stepped up in distance as she tackled the bet365 Fillies' Handicap off a mark of 84.

According to Racing TV, Enchanted Queen won at 4/6 in a five-runner race over 1m 142y, demonstrating the confidence in her ability to handle the handicap sphere. Great Mates finished second, while the Roger Varian-trained Bintaziza, who had been expected to pose the chief threat, came home in third.

Bintaziza had scored on her first couple of outings on the all-weather surface before suffering defeat at Thirsk. Having been sent off at only 9-1 for the Sandringham in June, she had not been seen since and connections would have hoped for a stronger return under Ray Dawson.

2.48 Hexham - Moveit Like Minnie leads quality hurdle field

The main event on a quality Friday afternoon at Hexham saw Moveit Like Minnie top a field of seven for the Jewson Hexham Handicap Hurdle. The Nigel and Willy Twiston-Davies-trained mare had landed an eighth career victory at Wincanton in March before ending the campaign down the field in a quality Plumpton heat. She returned from a break in a lesser heat and carried the potential to defy topweight for a team who have been among the winners.

Banderas, who had been successful over two miles at Hexham back in May, presented a significant threat if handling the dip in distance under a six-pound higher mark. Winds Of Winter and Double Digits completed the shortlist of runners for the feature.

Additional Friday action

William Buick, James Doyle, Colin Keane, Tom Marquand and Kieran Shoemark were all in action across the card.

At 2.25, Ascot staged a hot novice race with Pink Larkspur among five runners. The 4.10 at Ascot offered an excellent 0-105 handicap over six furlongs, with Wiltshire, Pilu, Far Above Dream and Fandom featuring prominently in the betting.

A classified race at 3.00 at Ascot included Drymee and Hygge, with the latter trained by Gordon Elliott and sure to attract support.

Newcastle's 5.45 presented a fair fillies' novice, with Always Sunny and Noozhaa catching the attention. Noozhaa held particular interest as a half-sister to Meydaan.

International racing also featured on the Friday card. Saint-Cloud hosted a Group Three race with eight runners at 12.43, while the venue also staged four Listed races including a 3.38 contest where Oisin Murphy rode Zgharta.

Across the Atlantic, Keeneland's 10.16 featured the Grade One Darley Alcibiades Stakes, where Emphatic and Summer Starlet were among eight runners competing for top honours.
