Saturday brings a packed afternoon of Flat racing, with meetings live on Sky Sports Racing from Deauville, Doncaster, Lingfield, Newbury and Ripon.
The feature of the day comes at Newbury, where Never So Brave and Coppull lead a fiercely competitive field for the Group Two Visit Malta Hungerford Stakes.
Hungerford Stakes: Newbury's Group Two feature
Never So Brave arrives with the strongest form on paper after a hugely productive 2025 campaign, during which he landed the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, followed up with victory in the Summer Mile, and rounded off the year with success in the City Of York Stakes. Andrew Balding's gelding has yet to win in four starts this year, but he has been racing against high-class opposition and ran a solid race in defeat in the Sussex Stakes last time out. A bold effort is expected once again.
Coppull remains lightly raced for his profile and produced the best performance of his career last time out in the July Cup, finishing a narrow fourth of 11 with a strong late run. He steps up to seven furlongs for the first time in his career today, and there is a suspicion there could be more improvement to come.
Symbol Of Honour, like Coppull, is also stepping up in distance, not having tackled this trip since his first start as a three-year-old. He boasts an excellent record at Newbury, having won on both of his previous visits to the track, most recently in the Group Three Hackwood Stakes.
William Haggas's Extremely Zain went into the International Handicap at Ascot with an unbeaten record and started as a short-priced favourite to extend his winning run, but could only finish fourth on that occasion. He remains relatively unexposed and could yet take a step forward on this outing.
According to Racing Post, the Hungerford Stakes is now scheduled as the 3.10pm race at Newbury, with nine runners declared and total prize money of £93,572 on offer. The same source confirms the race is run as a Group Two, Class 1 contest for three-year-olds and up over seven furlongs, with the going described as Good to Firm, the course watered, and the stalls positioned in the centre.
Geoffrey Freer Stakes: Dubai Honour returns
Dubai Honour takes on five rivals in Newbury's opening race, the Highclere Thoroughbred Racing Geoffrey Freer Stakes, marking his return to action.
The gelding is a credit to William Haggas and his connections, having won 12 of his 37 career starts, including four Group Ones, and having banked more than £5 million in prize money along the way. He was last seen back in April, when he ran a creditable fourth in the Group One Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick.
Mount Atlas and Tabletalk provide worthy opposition and are set to meet for a fourth time. Mount Atlas has come out on top in two of their three previous encounters, but he is three pounds worse off at the weights here after edging out Tabletalk in a thrilling finish to the John Smith's Silver Cup.
Gamrai remains relatively unexposed after being narrowly beaten in the Copper Horse Stakes at Royal Ascot. He has since changed hands, having been bought by Victorious Forever, and switches yards from John and Thady Gosden to George Scott, with the possibility of further improvement still to come.
Rebel Rocket is the sole three-year-old in the field and tackles a step up in distance on his fourth career start, having last been seen finishing sixth in the Derby. He is worth keeping an eye on.
Per the Godolphin racecard, the Geoffrey Freer Stakes is timed for 1.25pm at Newbury with six declared runners and total prize money of £98,370, run over a distance of 1m 5f 61y.
Great St Wilfrid: Ripon's open handicap
Fast Track Harry, Lord Roxby and Dark Cloud Rising are all set to do battle in what promises to be a typically wide-open renewal of the William Hill/MND Association Great St Wilfrid Handicap at Ripon.
Clive Cox is sending only his second runner to the 'Garden Racecourse' in the last five years, and he could have a live chance with Fast Track Harry, who lines up here off the back of a fine run behind Amazing Journey, who went on to win the International Handicap on King George Day. Having already won off a mark of 95, he rates a danger to all in this field.
Lord Roxby arrives on the back of a course-and-distance success in which he saw off the reopposing Dark Cloud Rising in convincing fashion. Both horses hold solid claims here, with David O'Meara's runner four pounds better off at the weights, boasting a win over this exact track and trip, and bidding for a fourth victory in this popular contest for his trainer.
