Sky Sports Racing turns its cameras to Windsor and Lingfield on Thursday evening for a double-header of Flat action, with both tracks throwing up plenty of intriguing clashes across their cards.
According to Racing TV's official Windsor racecard, the Berkshire venue stages six races between 17:36 and 20:11 on going described as good to firm. Over on the all-weather, Lingfield's programme runs from 17:23 through to 19:58 on standard Polytrack, as confirmed by Racing TV's Lingfield listings.
Windsor's 7.41 - Law Court and City Of Poets head a strong field
The headline handicap at Windsor sees Law Court and City Of Poets take on an in-form trio in the RIP Susan Procter Memorial Handicap.
City Of Poets had been building nicely before finding only mild disappointment in the Coral Challenge on Eclipse day last month. He was somewhat hampered in that race, and given how strongly that form has worked out since, the drop back in class combined with a step up in trip could be enough for James Tate's runner to bounce back to winning ways.
Law Court arguably has a similar case to make. He kept on well in a slowly-run, competitive mile handicap at Glorious Goodwood and looks sure to relish this longer test. His last two efforts at Sandown - one of them a win on Brigadier Gerard night - should give his supporters plenty of encouragement heading into Thursday's assignment.
Elsewhere in the race, A Major Payne, Bold Impact and Parlando all struck form with victories last time out and remain on marks that look workable. The first of that trio was particularly impressive when winning over course and distance, a performance that hints he can defy a rise in grade under Billy Loughnane, who is still chasing his first jockeys' championship title.
King's Code should not be dismissed either, given his success at Chester last month now sees him drop in grade, while Auld Toon Loon returns to the mark from which he last won over course and distance back in August of last year, having since finished a highly creditable eighth in the John Smith's Cup.
Box To Box, meanwhile, may find conditions on the firmer side testing after 11 months off the track, though he remains on a mark that keeps him competitive on official figures.
New race-day detail has emerged on the timing and grading of Windsor's evening card. Racing Post's racecard lists the 18:41 contest as a Class 4 handicap for three-year-olds and up run over 1m 31y, with the winner collecting £5,566, according to the Racing Post. That same source also notes it as a 14-runner field over that 1m 31y trip - a fuller field than the earlier preview of the Matchbook Loves Racing Handicap suggested.
Windsor's 7.11 - Waterford Castle faces Amo's big-money recruit
The well-tried Waterford Castle drops into calmer waters for the Matchbook Betting Exchange Supporting UK Racing Maiden Stakes, where he takes on Amo Racing's Partying, a filly bought for 4.4m guineas.
George Boughey's Waterford Castle is the only horse in the field carrying an official rating and arrives at Windsor still searching for a breakthrough after 10 runs without a win. The bare form of those defeats would suggest he isn't quite top-drawer, but he can point to having repeatedly bumped into smart types in fiercely competitive races.
His two starts this season both ended in defeat as the odds-on favourite, yet the winner of the second of those races went on to land a valuable prize at Sandown. That effort saw him finish second behind subsequent Shergar Cup winner Archers Bay, and he also managed a mid-division finish in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot - form that reads well given winner Enceladus has since claimed a Group Three and runner-up Al Azd followed up with a rating-boosting victory at Ascot next time out, earning a mark of 109.
Partying represents the obvious threat. This Frankel filly, out of Aljazzi, is unproven at this level and should be watched closely in the betting market on her debut. Among the rest, Thatcham could be of interest on his first start since a break - Richard Hannon's charge never featured at Southwell last time but may do better back on turf with Pat Dobbs taking the ride.
Lingfield's 7.28 - Shangri La takes on eye-catching Neswick
Over at Lingfield, Shangri La faces the eye-catching Neswick in the Become a Friend of Racing Welfare Fillies' Novice Stakes.
The Kirsten Rausing-owned three-year-old is bidding to shed her maiden tag following a promising reappearance at Wolverhampton, where she was fifth on her handicap debut. This daughter of St Mark's Basilica could well benefit from dropping back in trip with Callum Shepherd on board, and her pedigree suggests she'll improve further over middle distances and with more time under her belt - factors that make her the one to beat back in novice company.
John and Thady Gosden's Dove Tale showed improvement on her first start as a three-year-old just a week ago, finishing in the frame under Rab Havlin at Kempton. A half-sister to German Derby runner-up Diamond Dove, this filly looks capable of better still.
Neswick's pedigree may be modest, but she shaped extremely well on her debut over course and distance and could well provide the stiffest opposition, particularly if she takes another step forward for that experience.
Best of the rest
Back at Lingfield, Kaaranah bids for a hat-trick in the opening Free Tips On attheraces.com Handicap at 5.23pm. John Butler's runner has been nudged up 4lb to a mark of 74 but could well follow up again against opposition including Alice De Clare and Barbury Boy.
Lingfield's evening also extends beyond that early race, with a Classified Stakes/Nursery Handicap scheduled for 8pm on the all-weather surface, according to Racing TV's card details, rounding out a six-race programme on the Polytrack.
At Windsor, the well-handicapped Great Chieftain looks to return to winning form against Colourband in the Matchbook Loves Racing Handicap at 6.41pm, before Mythological Star bids for a third straight victory in the Classic Golden Music Group 10th Anniversary Handicap, having already won at the track on Monday.
Conditions at Windsor could also play a part in how the card unfolds. The Racing Post notes rail movements and watering have been carried out ahead of the meeting, details that may prove significant given the good to firm going, per the Racing Post's racecard.
