Anna Nordqvist says completing her Team Europe squad marks a turning point in her captaincy, allowing her full focus to shift towards preparing 12 players for the Solheim Cup.
I feel this is a big milestone in this captaincy and the Solheim Cup journey, because we can now focus on preparing the 12 players for the Solheim Cup and the event ahead.
The Swede admits the build-up to naming her picks was far from straightforward, with a string of difficult conversations along the way.
It was a quite hard and emotional part of the journey having to make so many phone calls, letting players know they didn't make it and they weren't getting a pick.
Nordqvist leaned on the experience of those who have led Team Europe before her to help navigate the toughest phone calls.
Speaking to some past captains, they encouraged me to do my best and try to get through it because once it was done, then the hardest part would be behind me.
There was, however, plenty of joy to balance the difficulty, particularly when it came to informing her three rookie picks that they had made the cut.
Surprising the three rookies - Julia López Ramirez, Nastasia Nadaud and Mimi Rhodes - by letting them know they were among my four picks was very exciting!
López Ramirez, Nadaud and Rhodes sat down with Nordqvist for interviews and a live show at the Sky Sports News studio the day after the AIG Women's Open, the occasion on which the full 12-strong squad was finally confirmed.
Nordqvist is pleased with the blend she has assembled heading into the Netherlands.
I feel very good about the team we have selected and who has qualified. We have a great mixture of experience and personality, plus four rookies who bring a sense of fresh air and aggressive playing styles.
She now turns her attention to the tactical side of the job, working out how best to deploy her players against the holders.
I'm excited to continue to work on the pairing "puzzle" over the coming weeks and figure out the best strategy for us to take on Team USA. I'm also excited that everyone is so supportive and looking forward to what is ahead next month.
With a couple of weeks still to go before the squad heads to the Netherlands, Nordqvist stresses that the preparation is already well under way behind the scenes.
There is still a couple more weeks until we all head to the Netherlands, but there is constant work and preparation being done behind the scenes - including from the vice-captains, backroom team, helpers and caddie captains!

How the squad was built
Team Europe will attempt to wrestle back the trophy at Bernardus Golf between September 11-13, the tournament's first visit to the Netherlands, with Nordqvist fielding four rookies in her line-up of 12.
Charley Hull and Esther Henseleit booked their places via the LET Solheim Cup Points List, while Lottie Woad, Maja Stark, Linn Grant, Céline Boutier, Carlota Ciganda and Nanna Koerstz Madsen qualified automatically through the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings.
Nordqvist's four captain's picks were Leona Maguire, López Ramirez, Nadaud and Rhodes, while Angela Stanford, who captains the defending champions Team USA, will reveal her own selections later in August.
According to Golf Monthly, the four rookies in the finalised European team are Lottie Woad, Julia López Ramirez, Nastasia Nadaud and Mimi Rhodes, meaning the fresh faces span both the automatic qualifiers and the wildcard picks.
Not everyone in contention made the cut, however. As Yahoo Sports reports, the Netherlands' own Dewi Weber missed out despite being ranked ahead of some of the eventual picks, having been ruled ineligible after failing to realise she needed to be an LET member to qualify.
Nordqvist has also indicated her approach to building the team will not be purely data-driven. Speaking to the Irish Examiner, she said she will be "old school" about selecting players and pairings rather than relying solely on statistics.
A familiar partnership
Leona Maguire's inclusion as a captain's pick continues a pairing with history. According to RTÉ, Maguire previously partnered Nordqvist in Solheim Cup foursomes, including a Saturday morning match against Lexi Thompson and Megan Khang back in 2023.
Dame Laura Davies has already thrown her weight behind one member of the squad, urging Charley Hull to lead Team Europe at the Solheim Cup, while Nordqvist confirmed Maguire among her captain's picks. What happens next
Team Europe's automatic qualifiers were confirmed once the AIG Women's Open concluded, that tournament having served as the final qualifying event before Nordqvist's picks were made public, as detailed by Golf Monthly.
Team USA captain Angela Stanford is expected to name her own 12-player squad later in August, following the CPKC Women's Open in Canada, according to the same report.
Sky Sports Golf will provide exclusive live coverage across all three days of the biennial contest, with play getting under way at 6am on Friday September 11. Coverage resumes at 6am on September 12 and 10am on September 13.
Team USA require 14 points to retain the trophy after their 15.5-12.5 victory in 2024, while Team Europe would need 14.5 points to secure their first outright Solheim Cup win since 2021.
