Bath hosts today's action

Brilliant Star emerged victorious in the Listed British Stallion Studs EBF Beckford Stakes at Bath, securing the prize in a competitive field of 13 runners that was broadcast live on Sky Sports Racing.

The three-year-old filly, who had won two of her opening three starts, endured a disappointing outing at Goodwood in May before demonstrating a return to form with a fourth-place finish in the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot. That effort suggested the extended distance would play to her strengths, and she had been absent from the track since that summer run.

Brilliant Star's victory came over 1 mile 6 furlongs, with the winner's prize valued at £39,697. Pierian finished second with Venetia completing the frame in third.

Alla Stella's summer campaign

Pierian represented a notable runner for trainer William Haggas and jockey Tom Marquand. The filly had demonstrated improvement with each successive start and had caught the eye with a decisive victory over Asset at Bath the previous month, earning her another opportunity at Listed level.

Lady Vivian and Venetia were considered the best of the remaining contenders in what shaped as an excellent renewal of the contest.

Not That Guy secured his maiden victory when narrowly landing the odds at Wolverhampton on his previous start and represented an intriguing runner as he stepped into handicap company. A mark of 72might prove generous given the form of his Newbury second from the previous season.
