Mikel Arteta has secured his future at Arsenal by signing a new long-term contract that will keep him at the club until June 2030. The 44-year-old manager's previous agreement, which he penned in September 2024, would have expired next summer, but the Spaniard has now committed to an extended stay with the Premier League champions.
Since his appointment in December 2019, Arteta has overseen a remarkable transformation of Arsenal's fortunes. Most notably, he guided the Gunners to their first Premier League title in 22 years last season, ending a period of three consecutive second-place finishes that had frustrated supporters and the club's hierarchy alike.
Beyond the league crown, Arteta's achievements include leading Arsenal to only their second Champions League final appearance, though that showpiece ended in heartbreak when Paris Saint-Germain prevailed on penalties. His silverware haul also encompasses an FA Cup triumph and three Community Shield victories.

According to ESPN, the new deal brings a significant financial uplift, with Arteta's salary potentially reaching £15m annually when bonuses are included. The same source reported that Arteta had repeatedly expressed his desire to remain at the club, and contract discussions had proceeded in a relaxed manner over several months.
In a statement, Arteta expressed his pride at committing to the north London club.
It's a privilege to commit my future to the club and to continue to work with exceptional people who want the best for Arsenal,he said.
This club is unique, its character and the way it makes you feel, and I have a great sense of privilege that our journey together will continue.
The Spanish manager highlighted the bond forged between himself and the club's supporters and staff.
We have already built a special bond and created memories that will last a lifetime, and what is so exciting is that this is only the beginning of what we can achieve together.
Arteta also paid tribute to the club's ownership.
I'm extremely grateful to Stan and Josh for their trust and support, and feel honoured to be leading this club through such a special period in its 140-year history. This is such a proud moment for me and my family. I feel the love and respect from our fantastic supporters, and they have mine - and ours - in return.
Arsenal chief executive Richard Garlick welcomed the news, describing it as a pivotal moment for the club.
This is an important time in Arsenal Football Club's history. We want to create a winning era together with Mikel.
Garlick outlined the club's ambitions moving forward.
We will continue to work hard together as we aim to fulfil our long-term ambitions for the club and our supporters. Mikel has the belief, determination and the understanding of what it takes to build something remarkable and enduring here, and we are excited to continue that journey together.
What comes next
Arsenal's next fixture sees them host Leeds United at home on 10 October 2026, as the club looks to build on last season's title-winning campaign under Arteta's continued leadership.
